Charley Jones, our President/Owner was recently named CEO of Influence by the Idaho Business Review! http://www.pageturnpro.com/Idaho-Business-Review/58410-CEO-of-Influence-2014-Idaho-Business-Review/index.html#1 . Charley’s response, “I’m a little embarrassed by it. I’m certainly humbled by it, but I am proud of my company, and I’m proud of Stinker. So, I will brag about my people, and I will brag about my company. But brag about Charley? I’m not so comfortable bragging about Charley.” So let me brag about Charley! Charley was born in Pasco, Washington, the middle child, with 2 older and 2 younger brothers. He was raised in Boise and graduated from Borah High School and University of Idaho where he received an accounting degree. Yes Charley is a Vandal, in fact he was a cheerleader for U of I in 1971, the first time Idaho played Boise State in football. Idaho lost but did go 8-3 that season. GO Vandals! Charley, Nancy and boys Nikolaus 15 and Duncan 14 live in the Boise foothills along with their 2 dogs, Thor and Aislin, cat Tzaman and cockatoo, Bailey. Charley said he enjoys spending time with his family and attending the boys sporting events. “Nik likes track and football. Duncan is an avid lacrosse player.” Charley and Nancy enjoy attending all the boys’ activities; cherishing the years they have with them. Charley’s greatest ambition is to “Raise Nikolaus and Duncan to be kind, compassionate, and successful adults.” Charley also enjoys golf in the summer and skiing in the winter and finds gardening and working on the house rewarding. When asked if he has any hidden talents he said, “If I have hidden talents, they are hidden from me!” Charley and Shawn Davis bought Stinker 12 years ago in 2002. At that time Stinker had 43 stores and the employee morale was low. They both worked hard every day and did close 13 of the original stores but built Stinker to 64 stores and 540 employees today. Charley said the support of his wife and a lot of hard work has paid off. “I remember many days working with Shawn to rescue Stinker from almost certain failure. We had huge potholes in front of the fuel island at one store; we had a hole in the floor in front of the sales counter at another store. Previous owners didn’t take pride in their stores or their people. The transformation of Stinker from a neglected failing company into what we are today, successful, growing, and improving every day. Stinker employees are engaged and proud of their company and their co-workers. That is a fond memory that I add to every day.” In 2012 Shawn retired and Charley and his family became the sole owners of CJSD Holdings which consists of Stinker Stores, Arrowrock Supply and Westpoint Transportation. Charley hopes that within 20 years his sons will take over ownership of Stinker. Charley said he enjoys working with great people to make Stinker a better and more successful company. His advice, “Enjoy your job and the people you work with. Stinker is a special company filled with great people. Life is too short for you to not enjoy every day and the opportunities to grow and advance with Stinker.” Out of great leaders come great companies. Thanks for all you do for us Charley!
