Stinker Stores to Purchase 14 Albertson Fuel Centers

Transaction will expand the Idaho icon to 65 stores, a 33% increase over 2010.
Boise, Idaho, 9/7/11 – Boise-based Stinker Stores announced today the acquisition of 14 Albertsons Express fuel centers, including 11 in the Treasure Valley. When the transaction is completed this fall, Stinker will operate 65 convenience stores throughout Idaho and employ over 500 team members. The 14 Albertsons Express fuel centers will be rebranded as Stinker Stores selling Sinclair gasoline and diesel.
The Fuel Rewards program will continue without interruption at all 14 former Albertsons Express locations. In addition, most Stinker Stores will offer redemption of Fuel Rewards earned at Albertsons grocery stores, greatly expanding the opportunity and convenience for Albertsons customers to use their Fuel Rewards discounts.
“Stinker Stores and Albertsons are iconic Idaho companies. Both were founded by Idaho entrepreneurs, Farris Lind and Joe Albertson, in the late 1930’s. Stinker is an Idaho original with Idaho values. We are excited about the opportunity to grow the Stinker brand and proud to partner with Albertsons in continuing the very successful Fuel Rewards program. To us, buying local and being green is more than just a nice idea – it is the way we do business. We partner with Sinclair Oil selling gasoline and diesel refined from North American crude oil. At Stinker, we know gas… and we know Idaho!” said Charley Jones, President and co-owner.
This acquisition dramatically increases the reach of Stinker Stores, including adding Stinker’s first location in the Wood River Valley. The acquired stores are located in the following communities: Boise (6), Nampa (2), Eagle, Caldwell, Emmett, Hailey, Idaho Falls/Ammon, and Lewiston.
“2011 has been a year of robust growth for Stinker. We purchased Flying J properties in Blackfoot and Lewiston earlier this summer and have successfully integrated those operations into the Stinker family. With completion of the Albertsons Fuel Centers purchase, Stinker will have grown our retail footprint by 33% in 2011” said Shawn Davis, Vice President and co-owner.
Financing for the acquisition was provided by Zions Bank.
Founded in 1936 with a single station in Twin Falls, Idaho, Stinker Stores has grown into one of Idaho’s leading convenience store chains. The company employs 500 people at more than 50 locations across Idaho, including Idaho Falls, Pocatello, Twin Falls, Donnelly, Lewiston, Moscow and throughout the Treasure Valley. Purchased in 2002 by Charley Jones and Shawn Davis, Stinker Stores retains its independent spirit and affordable prices that have driven the company’s success for 75 years.
